Golf Swing Analysis - Using Trackman Golf Launch Monitor | Golf Club Sz

pros performing swing analysis are accessing new technologies to help their students. Video has been the primary tool with an interface with software allowing lines to be drawn over the video for reference points. Now new technologies are emerging adding new opportunities to learn differently.

The Trackman golf launch monitor is the new tool I am talking about. Without the use of video (although you can use them together), and with immediate feedback during your lesson, you can use the data Trackman provides to work on your swing. It is a high tech, non video means of connecting to a swing correction by feel by comparing the read outs you get from the Trackman.

So here is how it works. Trackman takes detailed data about the ball flight and your swing. Things like ball speed, swing speed, launch angle, angle of attack, etc. You can learn to affect these numbers and see how your efforts affect the results of your shots. A pro that knows how to use the Trackman can create optimal numbers to try to attain on the read outs that will equate to perfect swings. Get the numbers and you have the swing.

The way this works is very cool. As you hit balls and get feedback on the data you will focus in and try to “correct” the numbers toward you optimal result. You can take one aspect and try to get it right. Let’s say your swing path is inside out 2 degrees. Your optimal is 1 degree inside out (as you and your pro decided). So you swing out 3, swing out 1, swing out 4. You step back, you and your pro discuss it and you try again. You swing inside 3 (good but, oops too much), swing 0 path, swing inside 1 (bingo), swing inside 2. Okay, I’m sure you get the idea.

When you work on your sing like this it is amazing what happens. You just get the feel for how to change those numbers and get the data you want. You use the tips and ideas from your pro to guide you to the numbers. The connections between what things work and what doesn’t come faster and greater. It is very intuitive.

The data from Trackman brings another positive thing. It is trust. Often your pro might say, “You swung outside in there”. You believe him, well sort of anyway, but it is not definitive. He might then say “that is a little better”. Well, how much better? With the Trackman data everything is definitive, trust is high. When you correct and are now swinging on the inside you are 100% sure, and by exactly how much. This makes a huge difference in learning.

The Trackman was almost exclusively a club fitting and club testing tool. Now it is becoming the ultimate tool, and the PGA pros are starting to use it in this fashion. I would highly recommend it to anyone who can find a pro teaching with one, there are not many out there yet.
