I am extremely active on Amazon. I go on this site before I buy anything and read customer reviews, especially when it comes to my 3 month old daughter. I did not take her to the beach all summer as I was worried about sunburn and other things. I really tried to listen to our doctor. And we live at the Jersey Shore!

I love this thing, but….

We have always had a SportBrella for the beach. The darn things are great and there is always something they could have easily fixed.

Easy set up. Makes a great privacy screen.

This sets up in about 10 seconds and seems well made. The pictures make it look bigger than it actually is but 2 adults fit under it in chaise lounges easy and that’s good enough for me. I bought this primarily as a privacy screen and umbrella for sunbathing any way we choose in the backyard and it works good for that. You can put your head under it to shade your eyes or read and sun the rest. From the closed end you can’t see what’s underneath or around the sides unless you look right over the top so prying eyes have to get really close. I don’t know how it would work on a windy beach but it stays put in a breeze in my yard.

Best Beach Umbrella for the money

We’ve had three beach umbrellas in the last year, and this is by far the best. We use it for the beach only (no sports events).

Dependable and easy to use — made even better if you add a spiraled/threaded tip!

Recently used this Sport-Brella on a weeklong trip to Virginia Beach and it was fantastic! Even in the face of strong winds, it held up nicely and stayed tethered in the sand. If you are purchasing this for use at the beach, my one recommendation would be that you purchase an add-on anchor that is threaded/spiraled at the tip (if you don’t already have one) to add on to the end of the central pole. While the umbrella does have a pointed tip that you can dig into the ground, if you are planning to lounge on sand that is dry or very lightly packed, the central pole will probably not stay in the ground as dependably (particularly if the winds are strong). We worked around it by wetting the sand as much as we could around each of the places where we staked the umbrella; but a threaded/spiraled tip would have sealed the deal. Otherwise, this was a very good purchase that we look forward to using again and again.

We are very lucky to live about 1 hour from the shore so we’ve been “Beach Bums” our whole lives. We were always trying new gizmos and products for protection against the sun and wind. We have tried chairs with fold up canopy’s all types of cabanas and basic umbrellas. They all wound up having their setbacks. From plain falling apart after 1 season or a hassle to set up or just too many parts to get lost or not sturdy to take the elements on a beach. We have now found our solution. It’s easy to set up and take down nice and roomy, provides great UV 50 protection and the opening is wide enough when used as a cabana to give you a great view. You don’t feel boxed in. The side pockets inside the tent can be filled with sand to add more weight and stabilization. However there should be one more in the rear to equal out the weight distribution. It’s very easy to fold back up and ALL the parts go back in the carrying case with ease. Many products are packed at the factory for ease of shipping and cost savings to the manufacturer the consumer needs are an afterthought. Components become impossible to put back in their original carrying case which eventually results in lost parts or worse permanent damage. It is very obvious that the manufacturer has taken the consumers needs into great consideration here. This has resulted in a great product that has enhanced our shore experience.

Very good so far!

I bought this for a week at the beach. It worked very well. There are 8 stakes that keep the umbrella secure. Oh, not in sand mind you, only in a grass situation. 4 are small L shaped lighter weight stakes (I say chuck em and get some nice heavy duty camping stakes) and 4 heavier duty stakes (again, fine for grass and decent for wet sand) but I don’t think it could stand up to a stiff wind gust. We had a consistent breeze (8-15 mph) with an occasional gust to 20 and the umbrella went nowhere. The reason had almost nothing to do with the stakes, but rather filling up the 2 interior pockets with as much sand as they could hold (per instructions from other reviewers, THANKS!!). That’s a fair amount of weight on 2 ends and it did the trick. Side flaps were nice for a cross breeze. I could comfortably fit 2 low beach chairs in front and all of our gear behind the pole and 1 smaller kids camp chair (at least if you all wanted to be in shade)

Light weight, stable in light wind and very quick to set up

We purchased this product for use on the beach and at outdoor concerts. We have used it 4 times so far and have been very happy. There are three ways to set this up: as shown in the product pic with the sides down; with the sides open for better airflow; and upright as a large beach umbrella. The included stakes and lines allow you to use this in a moderately windy environment, even while upright. The bright orange color was also helpful when it came time for our friends to find us on a crowded beach.

a must for days at the beach!

I’m not positive how great this umbrella is quite yet. I do know that the instructions could definitely use some help! We used this at the beach in Texas. It’s easy to carry and can be set up by two people (probably one after some practice). However, it is difficult to anchor it well in the sand. I will probably purchase a PVC pipe to use as an anchor. The other problem is the wind…on a windy day at the beach, I’m not so sure how well this will hold up. As the sun moved, I wanted to change the angle of the umbrella for better coverage. This is where better instructions would be helpful as I was hesitant to move certain parts as it could cause wind damage. We will be trying it out at a baseball tournament this weekend – we’ll see how that goes but I suspect it will be great!
