How to EXTEND your Golf Clubs at Home | Golf Club Repair

extending your own golf clubs at home isn't really as hard as you might think even if you have no idea what you're doing in this video I'm going to break it down and make it really easy to do this video will be all about how to extend your custom golf clubs next week I will have one on whether or not you should extend them the main thing to think about when making repairs your own clubs are what you are going with if you plan to buy new grips and you need one then it's not a problem at all if you want to store it then I have a separate video on how you can store your golf grips so that would be worth checking out but I don't want to keep repeating myself in every video so i made one for dong that's something you have to think about before you do ay club repairs so what you have to do to make your extension in this video is first look good grip yo first you'll need a hook blade knife , so that they took off the handle with all the wrong link in the description below if you want to verify that even a normal stanley knife blade will work if you want to save the grip then you need something like this golf grip rod again i made a video on it if you want to check it out , which will also be in the description and all the videos related to this and then when you come to put after the extension is done you will need some liquid type paint thinner like turpentine or white spirit or something like that and just some double sided tape that also after reattaching the handle and then all the way the extensions you'll need are about 2 part epoxy so the Araldite I can find is probably the best it's like one side and one side hardener and the most important thing you need for extension, something you can't really extend without is something that can be extended that's what I bought off EBA It's double sided so you get a 2 in 1 and they come in different shapes and sizes, it depends if you're doing it with steel or graphite because you can get different ones because the top of the shaft is different sizes in steel and in graphite and it's basically just going to slide the extension on the end so it's steel and the graphite one you probably can't tell the difference in size but just make sure you're buying the right one before you actually go out and buy one you can get the little plastic ones that do exactly the same thing and it's just a comb on their top, if you can see there, which is what keeps it from going all the way down the shaft the way you put it on top, so it slides down and once it hits that ridge, it 's not going anywhere else and it works in graphite on the same principle and it comes in plastic plugs from there to there and then you just cut it to size and the same thing with it so if I put it in here I'm just going to cut it down to how long I want extend so you can get these or anything similar for a few quid like amazon or ebay or somewhere loads of places that do them or if you have an old haft lying around you can use one of these if you don't need that that's pretty much it it's all part of the shaft so in these shafts you can see they have a ridge or groove strewn all the way down the shaft in most of them it'll work exactly the same they'll just come to a point where they hit the ridge and it won't go down any further so today I'm just going to expand on the steel one, the graphite will work exactly the same, although when you get down to the actual cutting it depends on the bit material you're using when cutting, if the bits are also graphite then you'll need to cut it with a hacksaw, so a regular hacksaw will do if you're cutting steel , which is the same as this one, then you I'm going to need a tube to cut through the cutter that we're going to focus on today steel but it's the same process as graphite so we're going to take the handle off either a knife or a golf grip and put the grips back on we need some double sided tape and some turpentine or white spirit or any other sort of grip solution 2 part epoxy and then you just need something to extend the bit so if you're doing a steel pipe cutter if you do graphite then the hack saw when you tear off your grip then no Don't forget you'll have a new grip to replace the old one so yeah without further ado let's get started it should only take a few minutes to get started just deal with the grip I'm just going to rip this out because I have a new grip instead so I'm just going to use a hook blade and cut it straight down the grip all the way and like i say you can do the same thing with just a normal blade so just slice it straight down and it will do the same thing you need to ripped off, it should just peel right off like this, so if you want to find out how to save the grip and not have to buy a new one like I say, just watch my next video, I'm just going to clean off any tape that's on there and we've got a nice clean shaft, with whom I will work.

I'm just going to grab my extension, you just mark how much you want to cut it down, so say you wanted like an inch, say it was an inch, so you just make an inch out of the groove on the shaft, mark an inch on it and it's give you a clue where to cut it and that will be how long to extend it once you figure out where you want to cut it You'll want to grab a pipe cutter if you're making steel and you're just little cuts and start it into the shaft to give me a line to shorten it try to get it in the same place obviously as you go round and round if you keep tightening it a few times then you keep getting tighter and tighter I'm just going to speed it up because it it can take a minute to get the font you really need to follow well which was pretty easy actually sop yeah that's straight , not far where I made that line around me before as my guide so how much does it extend i have to make another extension one day if i want and that is ready to be put in the end of the shaft once you have your extension ready you just take the epoxy Araldite is pretty good again as it comes with a little stirring stick so what I do is I quite like to put a little bit on a piece of paper or whatever I'm using so it's there so i ' I'm just going to extend and we're going to get the smaller piece to get the glue and we have to mix it together so we're just going to turn it probably near the groove in it, with that bit it's going to be in contact on the shaft it doesn't matter if you make a little mess because it just goes in the Shaft, so you won't see it anyway, don't be shy about getting in there a lot, once it's covered in glue we can just hit the end of it, which is what I like to do, then just go around it a little bit and just make sure that on the extension itself and there is quite a bit of glue on the shaft if you feel like you have enough glue on it it won't go anywhere anyway but I pretty much kept the handle straight up and then let it dry for 24 hours so the tape will only help it in place , so make sure it's pushed down properly, glue it properly and then the handle is ready to go on where the extension really isn't going to go anywhere once the grip is over it and that's literally all there is to it seems a little too good to be true but it's really just straight i let it dry overnight you don't actually have to leave it that long but it's always better to be safe than sorry , and then they will be fine when they go first morning id maybe only go up to a maximum of an inch and ahlaf 2 inches maybe because not at all what happens after that depends on how deep in the shaft you go but then it starts change its weight and things so id about 2 inches max.

I actually did this with my kit that's up there in green, so what I did was I took 6 taper shafts like this and I cut them off at the tip so they fit in the head so I cut them about an inch and a half and then I had to lengthen and I had a 5 iron so I had to lengthen it about 2 and a half inches and I used it for about a year and a half and it was find it worked it was absolutely find and aI never had any problems form does this method this is how I've always done it and I've never had any problems so hopefully this will help anyone who's bored at home and just wants to try it themselves it's really easy that me too about 2 minutes on it 1 like a whole set you can easily do in an hour so just give it a go and let me know what you think in the comments if this video helped and I don't see you in the next one thanks for watching
