Jim Furyk’s Presidents Cup exit interview: Pizza oven gifts, poor team karaoke turned into a ‘big fat W’

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jim Furyk is still wearing his Team USA cap from the Presidents Cup in Montreal. It’s been over a month since he served as captain and guided Team USA to an 18.5-11.5 victory over a 12-man International Team at Royal Montreal for the tenth consecutive victory in the competition, its 13th win overall in 15 editions.

“I wouldn’t say I wear it every day, but I had blue on today. So, yeah, it fit the bill. Wear blue a lot,” he explained. “I’ve been wearing it a bunch. But, you know, obviously, I’ve got my Ally hat on when I’m on the golf course most of the time, but, yeah, kicking around town in it, it’s good to have it on and having some fun with it. I’m a big hat guy.”

Furyk deserves to bask in the glory of leading Team USA to victory and he’s a patriotic guy as he proved once and for all when he told a certain reporter — me! — “Eff you and go eff yourself when yours truly mentioned it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world for the biennial competition if the International side finally tasted victory. Furyk’s colorful response at the tail end of our one-on-one conversation — it didn’t happen during a press conference as many assumed — was said in a playful manner but as he discusses in the ensuing exit interview Q&A, he thought about using those words and decided to let it rip with hopes it would be published and put a chip on his team’s shoulders. It most certainly became a rallying cry of sorts. Furyk also rates his karaoke performance of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” and whether he’d like to pull a Luke Donald and remain the U.S. captain for the next rendition of the Presidents Cup in 2026.
