Stop Hitting Fat Shots with the Forward Press Drill

stop hitting fat shots with the forward press drill

If you’ve been hitting behind the ball chances are your club shaft is backing up and the club head is getting to impact the ground before your hands. Let’s try to change that with this good forward press drill. It’s going to to help you keep your hands in front and get the shaft leaning forward and it will result in much better contact.

When you have problems hitting behind the ball and taking a chunk of turf instead of making good contact chances are your clubhead is starting to release too soon and this causes the clubshaft to lean backwards so what you have to do is ensure that your hands are staying in front of the clubhead throughout the shot and when we make contact at impact we have a forward leaning shaft.

What I want you to do is simply take your setup just as you normally would and then forward press your hands well in front of the ball. Then you are simply going to take your normal backswing and try to return to that position. This drill is all about feeling that forward press at impact.

It’s sounds so simple but it works so give it a try on the range and with your practice swings until it feels natural.
