Previewing Open Round 1

Over the past several months, Scottie Scheffler has pulled off an incredible feat, finishing in the top 12 in 18-straight official PGA Tour starts. That torrid stretch helped him comfortably maintain his World No. 1 ranking, but he hasn’t won since March.

As a result, much of the talk heading into Day 1 at this year’s Open Championship is about the man just behind him in the ranking: Rory McIlroy. McIlroy won the Genesis Scottish Open on Sunday, and he triumphed the last time the Open was played at Royal Liverpool.

Beginning Thursday, the two stars will fight to end their respective major droughts.
